Hon. Lisa A. Sokoloff

Hon. Lisa A. Sokoloff is an elected Supreme Court Justice sitting in a Guardianship Part since 2020. She was elected to the New York County Civil Court in 2012 and elected to Supreme ten years later after having served as Acting for 6 years.  She has served in numerous positions and Courts since her initial election.  She co-chaired the Gender Fairness Committee of the Criminal and Civil Courts and now is a longtime member of the Supreme Court Gender Fairness Committee.  For more than 10 years she sat on the Judicial Hearing Officer Committee, which she joined while still in private practice.

Justice Sokoloff earned an AB from Vassar College and a JD from Boston University School of Law, where she was an editor of the International Law Journal. She practiced 28 years prior to taking the bench.

Serves on the NYWBA Nominations Committee and the Elder Law Committee having previously served on the Criminal and Civil Court Committees.  She is Co-chair of the Martha E. Gifford Summer Program entitled “What It’s (Really) Like to Practice Law In New York as a Woman.”  She is the architect of the Guardian Diversity Initiative and involved in its administration.  She served a liaison to Network of Bar Leaders and as a NYWBA Delegate to WBASNY for many years.
