NYWBA and WBASNY’s Equal Opportunity in the Profession Committee present a CLE Program:
Beyond Gender Survey 2020: Addressing Gender Inequality in the New York Courts

Speakers:

Honorable Betty Weinberg Ellerin, Chair, NYS Judicial Committee on Women in the Courts

Lindy Korn,  Lindy Korn, PLLC

Jorge Arteaga, Deputy Director, Hollaback!

In November 2020, the New York Judicial Committee on Women in the Courts released the results of its Gender Survey 2020, a comprehensive report on the results of a statewide survey on gender bias in the courts.  More than 5,300 attorneys responded to the 2020 online survey, which found that while advancements have been made, women still face discriminatory treatment and experience higher levels of sexual harassment than men. Women reported that while there has been great improvement system-wide since a prior study conducted in 1986, there is still significant bias against women attorneys and litigants. This panel will discuss ways in which the issues of sex discrimination and sexual harassment can be addressed from both a legal and a practical perspective as well as ways to implement the important recommendations for changes in policy and practice contained in the report.
