Lissett Ferreira

Lissett Costa Ferreira is a highly experienced elder and disabilities law practitioner with a focus on guardianships, estate planning, trusts and estates, and Medicaid and special needs planning. Ms. Ferreira is a Partner at Meenan & Associates, LLC, a boutique civil practice law firm.

Lissett received her B.A. with Honors from Brown University, and after graduation she served as a Fulbright Scholar in Mozambique. She graduated magna cum laude from Fordham University School of Law, where she placed on the Dean’s List and served as Symposium Editor of the Law Review and a Crowley International Human Rights Scholar. Lissett also received the Murray Magna Cum Laude Public Service Award and was inducted into the Order of the Coif Honor Society.

In law school, Lissett summered at White & Case and interned at Safe Horizon Domestic Violence Legal Project.  Upon graduation, she served as a law graduate at The Legal Aid Society and thereafter as senior court attorney to Supreme Court Justice Hon. Laura Visitación-Lewis. In 2014, Lissett launched her own solo practice.

Lissett enjoys being active in various statewide, local and affinity bar associations, including organizing programs, lecturing, and serving on Dinner Committees. She currently serves as Treasurer of the Puerto Rican Bar Association and a member of its Judiciary Committee. Lissett published in the Fordham Law Review and the New York State Bar Association Elder Law & Special Needs Journal. In 2024, the Legal Aid Society honored Lissett with its Pro Bono Publico Award and in 2020, the Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York recognized her as an Emerging Leader.

Serving in the New York Women’s Bar Association has been a highlight of Lissett’s career, and she values the friendships and professional development opportunities the NYWBA has fostered. For several years, Lissett has served as a NYWBA Director, Officer, committee chair, and delegate to WBASNY. As co-chair of NYWBA’s Elder Law & Disabilities Committee, Lissett inaugurated a bi-monthly “Lunch and Learn Elder Law” speaker series that attracts experienced practitioners to speak on topics of interest to the elder law bar. She also assists with the administration of the Guardianship Diversity Initiative – a collaboration between NYWBA and the Franklin H. Williams Judicial Commission under the leadership of Hon. Lisa A. Sokoloff, J.S.C. – which aims to increase diversity in the pool of people eligible for court appointments in guardianship proceedings.

Lissett lives in Brooklyn, New York with her husband, Josh, who is a high school teacher, and her two teenage sons, Nicholas and Ethan. She is godmother to Layla Mae and dog aunt to Bandit.
