The National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) helps people who need a life-saving marrow or blood cell transplant. They connect patients, doctors, donors and researchers to resources they need to help more people live longer, healthier lives.
The NMDP is the hub of a worldwide Network of more than 500 leading medical facilities in marrow and blood cell transplantation. More than 260 patients receive marrow or blood cell transplants through this Network each month. Since it began operations in 1987, the NMDP has helped give more than 25,000 patients a second chance at life.
Please note: a person's race or ethnicity affects matching
Because tissue type is inherited, patients are most likely to match someone of their same race and ethnicity. There is a special need to recruit more donors who identify themselves as: Black or African American, American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian, Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander, Hispanic or Latino.
